Holiday gigs are terrible, but at least you can sneak out halfway through the night, under cover of darkness, using any number of plausible excuses. Summer parties are in the middle of the day, when there's no probable alternate demand on your time. Also, you're often pressured to bring your family with you. A quick shortcut to starting a fight with your significant other? Bring him/her to a firm party and leave him/her alone for ten minutes with any other lawyer in the firm.
